“All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once they grow up”.

To All Parents And Children of heaven

Here we bring to you two different experiences : First one, is a short poem called 'To All Parents' By Edgar Guest and the second one is a film named 'Children of Heaven', about simple people living simple yet fulfilling lives. Both of them will strike a sensitive chord within your heart.

                              --- by Edgar Guest

"I'll lend you for a while a child of mine," He said.
"For you to love the while he lives and mourn for when he's dead.

It may be six or seven years, or twenty-two or three,
But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you, and should his stay be brief,
You'll have his lovely memories as solace for your grief."

"I cannot promise he will stay; since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn.
I've looked the wide world over in My search for teachers true
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love, not think the labor vain,
Nor hate Me when I come to call to take him back again?"

"I fancied that I heard them say, "Dear Lord, Thy will be done!
For all the joy Thy child shall bring, the risk of grief we run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness, we'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known, forever grateful stay;
But should the angels call for him much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand!"

2. The second presentation here, is a very unusual film, 'Children Of Heaven', which was nominated for the Academy Award in the 'Best Foreign Language Category' in 1998. You will have to watch it to understand the beauty that lies in simplicity. And it's the kind of film that the whole family can enjoy.

"Children Of Heaven" celebrates the essence of childhood in this delightful tale of a brother and sister who share a pair of shoes when the boy (though no fault of his own) loses his sister's only pair. Since their parents are too poor to afford a new pair, they keep it a secret. The boy is deeply upset about losing the shoes, and the two siblings work together to find a solution without placing an additional financial burden upon their beleaguered parents. And so, they share the only pair of worn-out sneakers which belong to the boy. She wears them to school in the morning, and then

runs through the streets, gives him the shoes and he wears them to school in the afternoon. This plan is not without its challenges, however; trading them off every day in a mad rush, jumping gutters and navigating the twisting lanes to their schools and back. She almost loses a shoe once when it falls into a gutter and as a result, her brother gets late for school.

All this while though, both of them crave a pair of their own. At last, the boy discovers a possible solution to the shoe dilemma, at his school. There is a race announced in the little boy's school and he finds out that if he wins third prize he can get a new pair of sneakers. The first and second prize are more lucrative, but the boy has no interest in them. All he plans to do is to beat out several hundred children and lose to only two, to make his sister happy. And then, the climactic foot race follows.

Eventually, Children of Heaven isn't about lost shoes, a family's financial difficulties, or the result of the race. It's about how those things symbolise the definition of a family, in one way or another. At its heart, this is just a simple story about the love between a brother and sister. It transcends all cultures, and makes the audience see the humanity of the children.

A must watch. It's a collector's delight!! Children Of Heaven
